Spillane Entering Second Season With the Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders made an underrated move last 2023 NFL free agency by signing linebacker Robert Spillane.
Spillane showed flashes last season as one of the best linebackers in the NFL and immediately made an impact in the Raiders' linebacker room. This next season is Spillane's seventh as an NFL linebacker and second with the Silver and Black, one in which he will be looking to career over what was a career campaign last year.
Raiders coach Antonio Pierce had the chance to describe what kind of player and team captain Spillane is when he spoke at the 2024 NFL Owners' Meetings last week.
"I think we don't talk about him [Spillane] enough," Pierce said. " ... Broke his hand, was in the hospital, called me half drugged up: 'AP, I'm on the plane.' [I was] like, 'Man, no, you better stay in the hospital bed.'
[He] showed up the next day, cast on, played in the game, didn't miss a snap. Every practice. Dependable."
Spillane played all 17 games last season. He finished with 148 total tackles (82 solo), seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and three interceptions.
Spillane was given an overall grade of 77.0 from Pro Football Focus, the third-highest on the Silver and Black's defense, an 89.0 run-defensive grade, and an 87.1 pass-rush grade for the 2023 season.
The veteran linebacker's 96 solo tackles were 12th among NFL linebackers, while his three interceptions were tied for fourth among linebackers.
In his career, Spillane has posted 339 total tackles (210 solo), 17 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and four interceptions in 69 games.
Be on the watch for Spillane next season, as he will look to be a critical factor in the Silver and Black's defense yet again.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
