Las Vegas Raiders 2023 NFL Draft Day-Two Prospects
The Las Vegas Raiders are two days away from the 2023 NFL Draft. While there is still plenty of speculation about what the Silver and Black are going to do with their first-round (seventh overall) selection, there’s still an option that they can pick up valuable assets on Day Two of the draft.
The Raiders find themselves going into Kansas City with 12 selections, four of them on Day Two and three within the Top 100.
Round 2, No. 28
Round 3, Nos. 70/100 (via New York Giants)
Round 4, No. 109
My projection, different from Editor and Published Hondo S. Carpenter Sr., is based on team needs and what can be selecting the best available player if the Raiders stay put and do not trade away any of their picks.
The Raiders have options for reinforcing many team needs on Day Two, including the offensive line, linebacker, and quarterback positions.
Offensive lineman Cody Mauch, North Dakota State
"Mauch is an excellent athlete who possesses ideal lateral and vertical agility to mirror defenders in pass protection or climb to the second level and pick off linebackers in the run game. He quickly climbs to the second level and is always looking for work,” NFL Draft Bible said of Mauch.
Quarterback Tanner McKee, Stanford
"On film, McKee displays many of the skills necessary to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. His arm strength stood out. He can effortlessly throw the ball downfield without it fluttering or losing velocity. He can lead receivers and hit them in stride, even when he is under pressure. McKee’s velocity is some of the best in the class, as he can drive the ball in between defenders and thread the needle,” Draft Bible said of McKee.
Quarterback Hendon Hooker Tennessee
"There is a lot to like about the Tennessee signal-caller both physically and mechanically. As a passer, Hooker shows a compact release, where he uses his frame to create velocity on multiple drive throws. He displays an effortless flick of the wrist, showing off his arm talent. His ability to reach all parts of the field is uncanny, with multiple throws from the far hash into the wide part of the field...He seems to throw only one speed, ripping the ball on swing or dig routes that favor more of a layered throw,” Draft Bible said of Hooker.
Linebacker Jack Campbell, Iowa
"An all-world tackler, Campbell uses length, range, and instincts to impact the game…Extended frame with stretched-out limbs. Turns this into an advantage, scoping out the offense and attacking accordingly. Expert tackler who employs precision striking and consistent fundamentals. Capable of dropping his weight and launching to win the leverage game vs. ball carriers,” Draft Bible said of Campbell.
Offensive Tackle Dawand Jones, Ohio State
"Size is astounding, length and mass that is visible from the nosebleeds. Naturally wide-base that remains consistent throughout his pass set. Hand fighting is non-negotiable. His innate length prohibits pass rushers from reaching his chest,” Draft Bible said of Jones.
Linebacker Henry To'oTo'o, Alabama
"Athletic linebacker who can come downhill in a hurry and limit rushing yardage. To’o To’o has quick hands to stay clean when flowing to the sideline, taking advantage of his speed to make plays. His closing speed is very good. Linemen have a tough time locating and blocking him at the second level as he slips past blocks," Draft Bible said of To’o To’o.
.The Raiders may have four picks on Day Two, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they use some of their Day Three draft capital and move back into a position of obtaining another top-100 selection.
General Manager Dave Ziegler might be tempted into trading up or down that seventh-overall pick but in the situation the Raiders find themselves, I don’t see them pulling the trigger and deciding to load up via the draft.
