Las Vegas Raiders 2023 First-Round Prospects
The Las Vegas Raiders are putting their final stamps on prospects this week and preparing to head over to Kansas City for the first of their 12 selections in the 2023 NFL Draft this Thursday, April 27, 2023.
The Raiders find themselves in a wildcard situation, and they have the draft capital to trade up, stay put or trade down from its top-ten pick.
General Manager Dave Ziegler has made it clear that he hopes to bring in a top player and group of players who can contribute immediately and make a difference on the team.
Trading the No. 7 overall pick away is still not out the window, and there’s a possibility anything can happen come Thursday.
“No, we haven't ruled anything out in that regard, and we won't. Whether that's for pick No. 7 or if that's pick No. 100. We'll take every pick individually, assess the situation and what makes most sense for us in terms of standing firm and picking or moving up or moving back. And so philosophically, that's how we operate,” Ziegler told the media.
My projection, different from Editor and Published Hondo S. Carpenter, Sr., is based on team needs and what can be selecting the best available player if the Raiders stay put at No. 7.
EDGE Tyree Wilson, Texas Tech Red Raiders
“Wilson is one of the most physically gifted prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft, possessing the arm length, frame, explosiveness, and power to be an immediate impact player at the next level,” NFL Draft Bible said of Wilson.
Cornerback Christian Gonzalez, Oregon Ducks
An exceptional athlete who has all the movement skills and demeanor of a true shutdown corner.
Cornerback Devon Witherspoon, Illinois
“Witherspoon played on both the boundary and field sides of the defense for Illinois. The dynamic cornerback takes snaps covering X, Y, and Z receivers from a combination of press coverage and off-man,” NFL Draft Bible said of Witherspoon.
Offensive lineman Peter Skoronski, Northwestern Wildcats
“The potential first-round pick that has the versatility to play any position on the offensive line with his size and athletic ability,” Draft Bible said.
All four players probably will be starters from day one and can make a substantial difference on both sides of the ball.
Ziegler might be tempted to trade that seventh overall pick, but in the situation the Raiders find themselves, I don’t see them pulling the trigger and deciding to load up via the draft.
