Raiders NFL Draft Prospect: DL Moro Ojomo, Texas
The Las Vegas Raiders find themselves desperate to turn the defense around.
One area, in particular, the team needs to address this offseason is the interior of the defensive line. With a few players hitting free agency, the Raiders must find depth through free agency and the 2023 NFL Draft.
While the pressure is on for Raiders General Manager Dave Ziegler to turn this franchise around, he can upgrade the defensive line's interior by selecting one of the biggest sleepers in the draft.
This offseason, we'll work alongside SI’s Draft Bible to get you the latest information on any potential players the Raiders might consider drafting, including some who could fall into the later draft rounds.
“We’re going to continue to find players who fit what we look for, and continue to build this team in our vision, and I think we’re going to, at the same time, our goal is to win football games, and our goal for next year is to make an improvement over where we were this year,” Ziegler said.
Defensive tackle Moro Ojomo, Texas Longhorns
“Ojomo is an explosive defensive lineman with a high motor, good arm length and athletic traits, and experience in several unique roles, but he’s an undersized tweener who struggles against double teams and lacks a developed pass rush plan,” Draft Bible said of Ojomo.
As one of the more versatile defensive linemen in this class, Ojomo can be a valuable asset to the Raiders' defense and excel under Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham.
The 6-3 286-pound defensive lineman made everyone notice his skills since week one of the regular season when he and the Longhorns faced Alabama.
Ojomo finished the season with 32 tackles (16 solos), six tackles for losses, and three sacks, and graded as the eighth-best defensive grade (90.6) among all interior defensive linemen, according to Pro Football Focus.
His quickness off the line is his greatest strength, and his ability to move around the line allowed him to get good one-on-one match-ups.
A few questions scouts might have about him are his undersized frame and weight for an interior defensive lineman in the NFL. He has dealt with penalty issues and a few minor techniques, but ultimately, he is one of the most NFL-ready run defenders in the entire draft class.
After a great showing at the East-West Shrine Bowl, Ojomo is on the rise and could continue to elevate his draft stock at the NFL Combine.
As for the Raiders, they can select a player whose major weakness can be corrected at the next level and bring speed to a defensive line looking to find its identity.
The NFL Draft will occur at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo., from Thursday, April 27 to Saturday, April 29. ESPN, ABC, and NFL Network will broadcast all seven rounds.
