LSU WR Nabers Looks Up to Raiders' Adams

Many young wide receivers model their game after Las Vegas Raiders star Davante Adams, including LSU 2024 NFL Draft prospect Malik Nabers.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is unquestionably one of the best players in the National Football League.

Adams, a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro, has caught 203 passes for 2,660 yards and 22 touchdowns. He is one of the most precise route runners at his 6-foot-1, 215-pound frame.

Not only has Adams been a successful player on the field, but he has also inspired young wide receivers entering the 2024 NFL Draft. Many receiver prospects said they try to model their game after Adams.

One of those prospects is Malik Nabers of LSU, a unanimous All-American and First-Team All-SEC member in 2023, he is one of the top receiver prospects in the draft class.

Nabers spoke to me at the NFL Scouting Combine about what elements of Adams’ game he admires and tries to emulate.

“You know he has a plan when he goes to the line of scrimmage,” Nabers said. “He gets open pretty good. His routes, he can make a DB think it’s another route, and I like that about him because you need that creativity in the NFL.”

Nabers said he has yet to meet with the Raiders, but hopes it is in his future.

“I’m hoping they send me to one of those top 30 visits to get a better feel for them,” Nabers said.

Nabers finished his Tigers’ career with 189 receptions for 3,003 yards and 21 touchdowns. He broke out in 2023, finishing second in the nation with 1,569 yards and tied for third with 14 receiving touchdowns.

Nabers stands at 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds. His greatest trait is his explosive play ability, as he is one of the most dynamic receivers in the draft class. Nabers has the elite speed to take the top off a defense but can also catch a short pass and create yards after the catch.

The Raiders are set at receiver with Adams and Jakobi Meyers. Still, if the opportunity arises for them to add Nabers to that group, it would only make their passing attack more dangerous.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
