Raiders Draft Prospect: Linebacker Ulofoshio of Washington
The Las Vegas Raiders have improved their roster this offseason but still have a ways to go if they want to return to the postseason in 2024.
The Raiders and Coach Antonio Pierce built strong momentum in the second half of the 2023 season and are looking to build on that momentum going into next season.
To do that, they need to keep adding to their roster, finding players who fit the culture of toughness and competitiveness Pierce established last season that the team bought into and fans adored.
Linebacker is not a prominent position of need for the Raiders but they could still use depth there, and Edefuan Ulofoshio of Washingon could be a good piece late in the draft.
A former walk-on with the Huskies, Ulofoshio stepped up in a major way in his senior season to help lead the Washington to the National Championship.
Ulofoshio finished his college career with 251 total tackles, 15 tackles for losses, five forced fumbles, eight passes defended, an interception and seven sacks. He was a First-Team All-Pac 12 selection in 2023.
Ulofoshio stands at 6 feet tall and weighs 236 pounds. He is a stocky, muscular linebacker with solid size. He had his best season last year with 94 total tackles and three sacks.
In addition, Ulofoshio was impressive at the NFL Scouting Combine a few weeks ago, posting a 4.56 40-yard dash, and his athleticism is one of his best traits.
Ulofoshio is a majorly productive linebacker with an aggressive, downhill playing style. He flies downfield, takes on blocks well, and can lay a brutal hit in the run game. Ulofoshio knows how to fit the run and fills his gap consistently.
Ulofoshio is the type of player Pierce would covet. He plays hard and is a leader on the field. He is the type of linebacker who can provide important depth on running downs and on special teams.
However, Ulofoshio might struggle in the passing game. He is slow-footed and occasionally struggles to move laterally. He will have to become more agile in coverage if he wants to stay on the field longer in the NFL.
Ulofoshio could be a good depth piece for the Raiders if they add to that position in the draft.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
