Raiders Draft Prospect: CB Elijah Jones, Boston College

The Las Vegas Raiders could add underrated Boston College cornerback Elijah Jones in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Las Vegas Raiders will add young talent to their roster through the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Raiders put together an impressive 2023 class and are looking to stack classes in back-to-back years. New General Manager Tom Telesco will look to build a winning class in his first year in Las Vegas.

Under Coach Antonio Pierce, the Raiders built a strong defensive identity. Many of their defensive players are young and under contract, but the Silver and Black might be looking for more.

One player they could look to add is Boston College cornerback Elijah Jones. After an impressive week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., Jones is rising draft boards.

Jones finished his Eagles career with 156 total tackles, four tackles for losses, two forced fumbles, 36 passes defended and seven interceptions. He plenty of experience, having appeared in 55 career games.

Jones is like many cornerbacks in this class when it comes to stature: tall and thin. He stands at 6-foot-2 and weighs 176 pounds. He has a thin, wiry frame. Despite his size, Jones still looks and plays like an outside corner.

Jones is an impressive ballhawk, with high football IQ and strong instincts. He had five interceptions in 2023 as part of a career season, wirh a 48.3 passer rating when targeted.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jones was targeted 40 times and allowed only 13 receptions for 194 yards and one touchdown. He was the 13th-highest-rated corner in the nation.

Not only is Jones a good cover corner, his size does not limit him in the running game. He is a competitor and likes to tackle, and is unafraid of contact.

Pierce would covet Johnson’s competitiveness and fearlessness in all elements of the game.

Despite his competitive edge, Jones’ size will likely cause him problems at the next level. He has a light frame, which might make him a liability as a tackler. Jones also does not have great speed and might get beat by quicker receivers.

Jones’ stock has risen since his impressive week at the Senior Bowl and he could find himself drafted higher than expected. He was not on draft boards before, but now might be a day two or three selection.

If the Raiders are looking for a cornerbak who will compete on every play and make plays on the ball, Jones could be a good fit.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
