Raiders Draft Prospect: LB Jordan Magee of Temple
The Las Vegas Raiders are making changes to their roster this offseason in hopes of returning to the postseason in 2024.
The Raiders built up a lot of momentum halfway through the 2023 season when interim head coach Antonio Pierce took over. He is now the permanent head coach after the players bought in, and fans adored his coaching style.
Now, the Raiders are looking for players who will fit the culture Pierce has established. They have already made significant moves in free agency and will now focus on players in the 2024 NFL Draft.
There is still work to do if the Raiders want to be a postseason team, and one thing they could still do is address the linebacker position.
They could do that through the draft by targeting Jordan Magee of Temple, a second-Team All-AAC member in 2023 who has elite intangibles and attitude on the football field.
Magee finished his college career with 235 total tackles, 31 tackles for losses, two forced fumbles, 10 passes defended, an interception and eight sacks. He appeared in 40 career games for the Owls.
While standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 228 pounds, that puts Magee on the smaller side for an NFL linebacker. He looks small on tape but has a muscular frame to make up for it. He was impressive at the NFL Scouting Combine a few weeks ago, running a 4.55 40-yard dash.
Magee’s relentless motor separates him from other linebackers in this class. He plays incredibly hard on every snap, especially in the running game. Despite his size, he still plays an aggressive, downhill style of football that can translate to the NFL.
In addition, Magee might also be effective in the passing game at the next level because of his impressive movement and defensive back-like build. He looks like a linebacker-safety hybrid who can be used all over the field on passing downs.
However, it might be hard for him to stay on the field because of his size. He plays hard, but the NFL is a different level of physicality.
Magee will have to prove he can hold up against NFL blockers if he wants to be a three-down linebacker in the NFL. If he can’t, he might be limited to being used only in the passing game.
While Magee is the type of linebacker Pierce would covet because of his strong leadership, character, and impressive athleticism, if the Raiders want to add depth and versatility, Magee could be a fit.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
