AFC West Week 15 Preview: Chargers vs. Raiders on TNF
The only AFC West team that was triumphant on Week 14 was the Denver Broncos, who defeated the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
With a Kansas City Chiefs loss on Sunday, the Broncos have closed the gap with the division leaders, moving above .500 with a 7-6 record. They will look to continue to make their climb at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday night when they take on the Detroit Lions.
The Kansas City Chiefs, meanwhile, come off back-to-back losses as they prepare to head to Foxborough< Mass., to play the New England Patriots.
The Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders will do a quick turnaround and face one another at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Thursday Night Football.
Here's what to look for from those games:
Los Angeles Chargers at Las Vegas Raiders
Both the Chargers and Raiders will be looking for bounce-back victories on Thursday. They both are 5-8 and at the bottom of the division.
Los Angeles will be without its star quarterback Justin Herbert, who was placed on the Injured Reserve List on Tuesday because of a broken finger on his right hand. Quarterback Easton Stick, who has played only two career NFL games, will start for the Chargers.
Both the Raiders and Chargers come off of tough offensive performances, but these division rivals are known to give each other their best when they meet.
The last two games of the series at Allegiant Stadium have gone to the Raiders, but Las Vegas lost its last meeting with the Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., on Week 4.
Denver Broncos at Detroit Lions
After their winning streak ended in Houston, the Broncos turned around to make a statement in a 24-7 victory over the Chargers on the road.
The Broncos (7-6) have completely flipped their season and are in a tight race with the defending Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs, for the No. 1 spot in the AFC West.
The Lions (9-4) are coming off a surprising 28-13 loss to the Chicago Bears and want nothing more than to halt a rising Broncos team and insert themselves back into the conversation as one of the top teams in the NFC.
The Lions are third in the league in offensive yards per game with a top-10 passing and rushing offense.
It will be quite the test for Denver, but it would not be the first time it overcame the odds this season.
Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots
The Chiefs (8-5) have not looked as late like the dominant team they were early in the season, having lost three of their last four games.
Sunday will be a great opportunity for the Chiefs to get back on track against a very inferior New England team.
Like Detroit, Kansas City is also top-10 in both passing and rushing.
The Silver and Black will turn around quickly and host their AFC West rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers, on Thursday, December 14, at 8:15 p.m. EST/5:15 p.m. PST.
