Update: This article previously reported that Allegiant Stadium hosted what was the first-ever NFL game functioned entirely by renewable energy on Monday, Oct. 9, based on information reported on the stadium's website. The Philadelphia Eagles have since informed Raiders Today that their home stadium, Lincoln Financial Field, has been operating on 100% clean energy since 2009.

As if the Las Vegas Raiders' game against the Green Bay Packers at Allegiant Stadium on Monday night didn't comprise enough history already, the prime-time showdown added a revolutionary chapter to the legacy of the NFL.

Allegiant Stadium announced on Friday that it is now being fully powered by renewable energy and that Monday evening's game between the Raiders and Packers would function entirely on renewable energy. This made Allegiant Stadium one of the first NFL stadiums to ever host an NFL game that was completely powered by such energy.

The state-of-the-art stadium prides itself in its sustainability efforts, as the $1.9 billion stadium operates on solar, geothermal, hydroelectric, and wind energy.

“The Las Vegas Raiders are proud to set the bar in sustainability not only for the NFL but for sports around the world,” said Raiders President Sandra Douglass Morgan, per Allegiant Stadium's website. “We have a responsibility to our fans, players, community and planet to tackle sustainability head-on and set a new standard for sustainability in sports. Our reach and impact extend far beyond the game.”

In July, Allegiant was awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The stadium limits its environmental footprint with features that include its ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) roof, cooling tower, chiller plant and air handling units.

Allegiant Stadium opened on July 31, 2020, which makes it the NFL's second-latest stadium to open.

The first-latest is SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, which opened on Sept. 8, 2020.

The Silver and Black will stay home at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas next week to play the New England Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
