Raiders' RB Ameer Abdullah is a Valuable Backup
The Las Vegas Raiders and star running back Josh Jacobs have yet to agree on a long-term deal. The Raiders decided to use their franchise tag on Jacobs this offseason.
Even with Jacobs not attending or participating in Raiders OTA's and Minicamp, the Raiders running back room has been stepping up this offseason.
One of those running backs is Ameer Abdullah. The nine-year veteran has been a vital leader in the Raiders' running back room this offseason, even without Jacobs.
Abdullah was re-signed this offseason to a one-year deal. He was signed as a free agent in March of 2022. He spoke to the media about his role, now entering his second season with the Silver and Black.
"Really it's about just doing what's asked of you," Abdullah said. "I think that's the main thing. Not trying to make things too big or small; just doing what is asked. So, as far as roles or anything I think everyone is just working their best to know everything to be able to do everything to help the team in whatever that we're being asked."
Kennedy Polamalu, the Raiders running back coach, also spoke with the media about Abdullah.
Here is what he had to say.
"He's a smart, tough young man," Palamalu said. "I really love his energy. He just has that maturity about him, being in the NFL and moved around. He's a really good teammate. It's unselfish play. That's all of them. Brandon Bolden's the same way. Brittain Brown, Zamir [White], they're all the same way. They love competing and it's a very healthy competition."
Abdullah also expressed his thoughts on the entire Raiders running back room. Here is what he shared with the media.
"Really funny," Abdullah said. "Guys keep it light, so I'm always a fan of that, understanding that it's a great opportunity that we have to come here and play in the NFL and do what we've loved since we were kids. So, I think we feed off each other's energy real well."
Having a vital veteran in any of the positional rooms for any NFL team is always essential, and the Raiders are fortunate to have one in Ameer Abdullah.
