CB Amik Robertson Returns to Practice, Expected to Play
The Las Vegas Raiders suffered a significant blow to their defense last week when cornerback Amik Robertson left the game because of a head injury.
Although the Raiders' defense sustained Robertson's injury and won the game, they will definitely need his presence as they face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
Interim Coach and former linebacker Antonio Pierce shared what makes Robertson special.
"First of all, he's extremely talented when the ball is in the air," Pierce said. "I mean, I think we've seen that now on two plays this season where he just goes up, and he's floating in air, high-pointing the ball.
"He's probably one of the more physical defensive backs as well. You always see him punch the ball, coming through making tackles. I don't want to call it the little man complex, but he walks around like he's 6-2, 220 [pounds] sometimes, and he's very fearless."
The Raiders valued intelligence and high football IQ when selecting players to add to their roster. Pierce says Robertson possesses both. Robertson has made some of the biggest plays of the season for Las Vegas.
"He's a smart football player," Pierce said. "He has confidence, and I'm glad that he's finally having success on the field, because that's what we see in practice, and then that's how you keep building on it.
"And obviously, he got a little nicked up last week; we saw what happened. But to his credit, what's he doing? He's fighting to get back out there, and that's what kind of person he is."
Pierce said if Robertson practiced Friday, he would play on Sunday.
"We're hoping [Robertson can play Sunday]," Pierce said. "We're about to have practice here in a second. We just had walk-throughs and meetings. We want to get him out there and see how he feels. If he can go through today, then obviously, we'll play him. He's a good football player."
Pierce hoped the Raiders would get Roberston back on the practice field, and that is what happened. Robertson was on the practice field Friday and looked like his normal, upbeat self in the locker room afterward.
The Raiders look forward to having him back on the field this Sunday.
The Silver and Black will head out on the road to South Beach to take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, November. 19, at 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST.
