Raiders' Coach Pierce is Unapologetic
Las Vegas Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce has one of the more unique personalities among NFL head coaches.
Pierce's energy, how he expresses himself, and his confidence are natural. If someone like that is the leader of your team, would you have it any other way?
"When I leave this job, I'm going to be that guy I was before," Pierce said at the NFL Combine on Feb. 28. "This is a temporary seat, I'm not going to fool. I got hired, I'm going to get fired, but the one thing that ain't going to change about me is who I am -- how I talk, how I walk, how I act.
"I don't mince my words, I don't bite my tongue, it is what it is. So, like it, love it, I mean, this is no different than what I told Mark Davis Day 1, man, this is me; I don't know what else you guys want. I mean, I tell everybody it's not a joke, it's not a gimmick, it's me, but I think that's what people want to see.
"I mean, I walk through the halls, I see all these head coaches and former players and scouts and coaches and those are the same guys that either told me I couldn't do what I was going to do or had my back. And I keep receipts."
Pierce has a vision of where he hopes to lead the Raiders franchise, but he can only get there if he is true to himself. It's an authenticity that Raiders players, coaches, executives, and fans respect. As far as the NFL goes, though, it all means nothing without the wins, especially in a franchise where they are expected.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
