Raiders Should Enter Offseason Cautiously Aggressive
The Las Vegas Raiders finished a rocky season with a different head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterback than they opened the season.
Las Vegas had one of the highest-paid offenses in the National Football League but got far less in return for their investment than expected.
The offense's struggles and inability to move the ball or score when needed put strain on the entire team.
The Raiders' offense was often nonexistent, depending on its defense to keep them in and win games. While the defense was able to do so on many occasions, on other occasions, it was not.
The inconsistent play from the offense was arguably the main reason the Silver and Black barely missed the playoffs.
As tough of a season as it was, the Raiders still entered their Week 16 game against the Indianapolis Colts with a chance to reach the playoffs, albeit only a slight chance.
While the Raiders have many positions on their offense that need to be revamped, specifically the offensive line, General Manager Tom Telesco and Coach Antonio Pierce must realize how close they were to reaching the playoffs.
The Raiders have the 13th overall pick in this year's NFL Draft and will have many free-agent players who want to play for a coach like Pierce and a roster only a few pieces away from being a playoff team.
While it is an excellent spot, the Raiders should be careful not to mortgage their future in hopes of significant return when they only need a few tweaks to an already talented roster.
This offseason, the Raiders must spend wisely in free agency and not get too aggressive in the draft in search of the next big thing. With the coaching staff in place, the Raiders are a few good additions via free agency and the draft from taking the step forward they desire.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
