Should Raiders Target Pro Bowl LB Bobby Wagner?
A new free agent will be joining the frenzy this offseason.
Inside linebacker Bobby Wagner was released by the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday after only one season with the club, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported.
The eight-time Pro Bowler previously played the first ten seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks.
This past season, Wagner logged 140 combined tackles, ten tackles for losses, two interceptions, and a career-high 6.0 sacks.
Despite his age (32), the linebacker is still performing at a very high level and is an asset any team should want as part of its defensive system.
That should include the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Raiders' linebacker group was one of the few bright spots of its underachieving defense this last season.
Former Pro Bowl middle linebacker Denzel Perryman was great in his second season with the team, but injuries would limit the veteran from being a consistent contributor.
Wagner has missed only one game in the last seven seasons, proving a reliable and durable option.
A veteran presence like Wagner would also be of value to up-and-coming linebackers Divine Deablo and Luke Masterson.
Wagner's release will become official on March 15.
The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. The NFL Scouting Combine is Feb. 28-March 6, 2023, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. The club's deadline to designate Franchise or Transition Players is March 7, 2023, before 4 p.m. EST.
