Another quarterback option has opened up for the Las Vegas Raiders as we enter the heart of the NFL offseason.

The Washington Commanders announced on Monday that they have released former Super Bowl champion, Carson Wentz.

His release adds to the list of talented free-agent quarterbacks, including Lamar Jackson, Daniel Jones, Geno Smith and Jimmy Garopollo.

This does not mean we are recommending it. It simply is making you aware that he is available.

Wentz passed for 1,755 yards and 11 touchdowns in his lone season with Washington. He missed eight straight games after breaking a finger in the Commanders' Week 6 victory over the Chicago Bears.

When looking at the big picture, Wentz has only had two great seasons in his seven-year NFL career, and they were his first two seasons.

Wentz's 2017 campaign was his best, as he finished third in MVP voting and was selected to the only Pro Bowl of his career after throwing for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns in an incredible 11-2 season. His team, the Philadelphia Eagles, would win the Super Bowl without him at the helm, as Wentz sustained a torn ACL after in the final game of the regular season.

That season-ending injury would be the first of several injuries the quarterback has undergone in his professional career, a big reason why Wentz has been unable to get back to the level of play he was at in that 2017 season.

Because of that, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Raiders try to steer clear of the former Pro Bowler, as Las Vegas will want a reliable option at QB1 for the long haul.

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. On March 7, 2023, before 4 p.m. EST, is the club's deadline to designate Franchise or Transition Players.

March 13-15 is the free agent negotiation period. Starting at 12 p.m. EDT on March 13 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. EDT on March 15, clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2022 Player Contracts at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.

The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period begins at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
