Raiders Andre James Ranked 21st Best Center
The Las Vegas Raiders have players who continue to be recognized and listed as the best at their position.
In a recent Pro Football Focus article, Raiders center Andre James is listed as the 21st-best Center in the National Football League.
James has been the starting center for the Raiders for four seasons. He was signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2019 after playing his college ball at UCLA.
Pro Football Focus gave James a 60.0 percent PFF grade for his position. James is listed as the third-best center in the AFC West on the Pro Football Focus listings. Two AFC West centers are listed in the top three best at their position. Those centers are Corey Linsley (Los Angeles Chargers) and Creed Humphrey (Kansas City Chiefs).
James is entering his fifth season and becoming more and more of a true veteran for the Raiders. He had the chance to talk to the media about what it is like now being a Veteran player in the NFL.
"Yeah, it's definitely different," James said. "You know what I mean? It’s something that still hasn't hit me, like every day like it's still super surreal for me to walk in this building. I'm like, ‘Man, I'm still here, like I'm still doing this.’ So, like I said, I'm still trying to take that same mindset, but I'm also trying to become a leader to kind of motivate the younger guys and trying to lead them in the right direction. And so, that has been kind of a new step for me coming into my fifth year.”
James was a key player on the Raiders' offensive line, leading to Raiders star running back Josh Jacobs being the 2022-23 NFL rushing leader. He shared with the media how well the running game worked last season and how the offensive line will continue to improve this upcoming season.
“I think it's super important to us," James said. "We were able to run the ball pretty well. That's not just the offensive line, that goes on everyone. That's Josh [Jacobs], that's the tight ends, wide receivers and that's quarterback making those type of run checks. And as an offensive line, you want to hang your hat on being able to run the ball. That's like your main thing. You want to be able to run the ball because that helps set up pass protection, that sets up play action, that sets up everything else for us. So, to be able to run the ball, we just want to continue to work on that and just keep growing.”
