Raiders' Rookies Can Keep Growing Against Bears
The Las Vegas Raiders will travel to Soldier Field to take on the Chicago Bears this Sunday, a team that has struggled in several areas this season.
The Raiders can continue their impressive defensive outputs and fix offensive issues against a team that has not played well on either side of the ball this season.
The Raiders’ rookie class continues to see more opportunities on the field this season; they have grown and become more and more impressive each week.
This trend could continue against the Bears this week. Against the New England Patriots, the Raiders saw flashes of good play from tight end Michael Mayer and wide receiver Tre Tucker.
According to Pro Football Focus, Mayer saw a season-high snaps and had the best game of his career. He caught five passes for 75 yards, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo got him involved early. He also showed off his impressive catch-and-run skills on a pair of third downs.
Mayer was one of the top tight-end prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft, and as the season goes on, he should see his snaps increase and become more involved in the offense. He will become a dynamic weapon in the Raiders' passing game as he continues to learn how to play at the NFL level.
The same goes for Tucker, who also saw a season-high snaps with two receptions for 57 yards, including a 48-yard reception. Coach Josh McDaniels utilized Tucker’s speed against the Patriots, resulting in a big play.
The Raiders will hope to get more production out of Tucker and be able to use his speed more often, as he has proven it can be effective.
Raiders’ first-round selection defensive end Tyree Wilson has struggled so far this season, but with injuries to the Bears’ offensive line, they could start to show improvement. Wilson’s raw athleticism has been on display, but he has not yet developed many reliable pass-rush moves.
The Raiders’ rookies have each shown flashes that they can be consistent contributors for this team in the coming years, and as they each continue to put good play on the field, they will earn more snaps each week.
These rookies could see favorable match-ups against a struggling Bears team, a chance to shine on the field.
The Silver and Black will head on the road to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1:05 p.m. EDT/10:05 a.m. PDT.
