Raiders' CB Jakorian Bennett a Key Rookie

Las Vegas Raiders rookie cornerback Jakorian Bennett is a sleeper draft pick who could impact the Raiders' defense.

Las Vegas Raiders 2023 Training Camp is right around the corner as they look deeper at their roster to prepare for the 2023-24 NFL Season.

In a recent CBS Sports article, Chris Trapasso listed his rookie sleepers who can have a relative role in the AFC. One of those rookie sleepers is the Raiders' newly drafted cornerback, Jakorian Bennett.

The Raiders selected Bennett 104th overall in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. One of the skill sets Bennett can produce as a cornerback is his speed. Bennett ran a 4.3 40-yard dash at this year's 2023 NFL Combine, the fastest of all the prospects who attended. Bennet had 24 total pass breakups and five interceptions during his two seasons at the University of Maryland.

Chris Trapasso said that he thinks the Raiders could have drafted a steal player in Jakorian Bennett.

"Bennett had a Day 2 grade in my scouting grade book. He was that sticky and productive on film. Oh, and he tested like an elite athlete at the combine," Trapasso wrote. "While not quite as big and long as his first-round cornerback mate Deonte Banks, Bennett was around the football more frequently at Maryland and has legitimate perimeter-slot versatility."

General Manager Dave Ziegler praised Bennett when the Raiders selected him. Here is what Ziegler said to the Media during his final draft press conference.

"He improved his ability to defend the football," Ziegler said, "especially making plays down the field which for a defensive back is one of the more difficult things where you're running and tracking vertical routes, your back is to the quarterback, being able to find and play the ball." 

It will be very interesting to watch how Jakorain Bennett will play in his rookie season and overall make an impact on the Raiders' defense and the Raiders' cornerback room.
