Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams can find a way to best almost any cornerback in the league in single coverage.

Every now and then, though, as any of the great ones do, he runs into an elite defender that gives him a worthy test.

One of those challengers resides in Adams' own division.

Denver Broncos All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II is entering only his third NFL season and already has the respect of the Raiders' receiver.

"First off," Adams said when he joined "The Jim Rome Show" last week, "I'll give credit to that young man -- and obviously, in the heat of the games and stuff, and I said some stuff after the game about him and not being there yet and more just trash talk stuff after making a big play -- but if I had to say between him and Jaire Alexander, those are the two best corners in the league in my opinion.

"So, he's a hell of a young player and, I mean, only up for him. And he made a few plays on me the first time we went against each other were -- I haven't seen that type of footwork and that type of play out of a young guy, so I've got a lot of respect for his game as well."

As far as the toughest cornerbacks he's lined up against in his 10-year career, Adams named some of the greatest to ever play the game.

"I always had him [Patrick Peterson] as either 1A, 1B for my most difficult covers when I was kind of coming into it," Adams said. "I got him up there, [Darrelle] Revis, who I I didn't really get to go against much in my rookie year in that game, but I saw him a little bit, so I had a lot of respect for him, and I knew playing against him I had to pick it up.

"Obviously Richard Sherman in his prime. I mean, he was a hell of a player. And Aqib Talib. Those are probably the top guys that I would say, every time I had them, I had to make sure I brought my lunch pail."

The Las Vegas Raiders open training camp for the entire team on July 25, 2023.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
