Davante Adams Has Opportunity to Make History Sunday
Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has put up some big numbers this season, but what he has the chance to do Sunday would be among his best.
Adams has an opportunity to pass Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss in red zone touchdowns with a single red zone touchdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The second-year Raider would move into fifth place on the all-time red zone touchdown list.
"First, that's crazy," Adams told the media on Thursday. "Obviously, that's a pretty big deal. Being the top five, top anything in the entirety of this league is hard to do. So, it's a big honor to be able to do that. I don't know. I mean, just ever since college, really high school, I just had a nose for the end zone and obviously being put in great situations by the coaches and quarterbacks over the years. They've given me a lot of opportunities down there to be able to execute and make those plays.
"So, I just capitalize on those as much as possible. I'm in the business of maximizing, and if I'm going to be the guy who they rely on to make it happen, then I've got to come through."
Adams led the league in touchdown receptions with 14 last season, his first as a Raider. It was the second time in his career he led the NFL in touchdown receptions, his first having been in 2020-21 when he totaled a career-high 18 touchdowns.
As of now, Adams has 88 touchdowns in his 10-year career. He also has 9,787 receiving yards on 781 receptions.
Moss, meanwhile, played 14 NFL seasons, ultimately totaling 15,292 receiving yards and 156 touchdowns. He was a six-time Pro Bowler -- just as Adams is -- and was selected to four first-team All-Pro teams.
Moss also is a member of the Hall of Fame's All-2000s Team.
The Silver and Black return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:20 p.m. EDT/5:20 p.m. PDT.
