For a defense that has ranked near the bottom of the league in turnovers each of the last three seasons, quarterback Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills might be what the Raiders' defense needs to get going in the turnover category.

Allen led the league in turnovers in 2022 with 19, with five turnovers coming inside the red zone. Allen added four more turnovers in the Bills' first game this season, a 22-16 overtime loss to the New York Jets.

Nevertheless, Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels is preparing to have his team fully prepared for the task at hand. The Raiders' defense will face one of the best offenses in the league since Allen was drafted.

"It's obviously a big challenge, this team has been one of the best teams in the league for the last four, five, six years here," McDaniels said. "Sean [McDermott] and Brandon [Beane] have done an incredible job of putting it together.

"This is as well coached of a team as you're going to see. They are connected in every phase of the game. You can tell that the players know what the other 10 guys on the field around them are going to do."

McDaniels sees similarities between Allen's and Jimmy Garoppolo's leadership styles.

"Allen is a really good leader and obviously they play hard for him," McDaniels said. "So, there's so many challenges he presents. You try to contain him, try to limit some of the production that you can, but he's going to make his fair share of plays, and you've got to just try to make it as hard as you can on him to not let that get out of hand."

After Monday's overtime loss to the New York Jets, Allen has had a turnover in six consecutive games, dating to last season. Allen had a total of 12 turnovers in those six games. Also, no quarterback in the league has been hit more than Allen since 2020.

All these things point to the Raiders' defense having some success if they play similarly to how they played in the second half against Denver. Time will tell which Raiders defense shows up: the defense from the first half of the Broncos game or the second half.

The Silver and Black remain on the road this week as they travel to play the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1:05 p.m. EDT/10:05 a.m. PDT.
