Raiders Defense Will Have to Move on Quickly

The Las Vegas Raiders' defense must learn from Sunday's blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills and then move past it.

The Las Vegas Raiders traveled to Buffalo to steal a victory. It is said that styles make fights. Unfortunately for the Raiders' defense, they were just what the Buffalo Bills' offense needed after a surprising week one loss to Zach Wilson and the New York Jets.

Quarterback Josh Allen of the Bills threw for 274 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and a 124.5 passer rating.

Unfortunately for the Raiders' defense, their weaknesses just happened to play right into the strengths of the Bills' offense. To make matters worse, the Raiders' offense was unable to sustain drives, keeping the Raiders defense on the field for a whopping 40 minutes.

Just like Las Vegas' defense was exactly what the Bills needed to get things rolling in the right direction, maybe the Pittsburgh Steelers offense will be what the Raiders' defense needs to get going in the right direction again. Kenny Pickett and the Steelers offense aren't quite the threat Allen and the Bills offense were.

The Raiders' defense entered the season determined to show how much progress they made over the offseason. Although it was a tough loss, it is a long season, and progress is a process.

Even in the loss, the defense showed how far it has come since last season. While the game was still in reach, Las Vegas' defense came up with a four-play goal line stand, which showed how different this year's defense is from past Raiders' defenses.

Football is the ultimate team sport, and while the team wins and loses together, the Raiders' defense would more than likely put the accountability for the loss on themselves.

However, there was enough blame for the Raiders' performance against the Bills, but placing blame is pointless in a four-possession loss.

Las Vegas must turn its focus to the Steelers and do so quickly.

Since there have only been two games so far, the Raiders' defense will have a chance to prove how well they played in the second half against the Broncos wasn't a fluke.

For the first time this season, they'll be competing in the friendly confines of Allegiant Stadium.

The Silver and Black return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:20 p.m. EDT/5:20 p.m. PDT.
