Raiders' WRs Can Cause Problems for Broncos' Defense
The Las Vegas Raiders have one of the best wide receiver trios in the NFL.
Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow stack up as well as any wide receiver trio across the league. Each player has a unique skill-set that defenses have to respect.
Renfrow specifically is a player who can win in the slot with elite route running and great athleticism. Teams commit so many resources to stopping Adams, but in doing so, sometimes lose track of Renfrow.
The Raiders will travel to Empower Field at Mile High to face the Denver Broncos this Sunday to begin the 2023 NFL regular season, and Broncos Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph knows about the problems Renfrow, Adams and the Raiders’ wide receivers can cause for his defense.
Joseph addressed the media and spoke about the challenges the Raiders’ pass catchers can present.
“[Renfrow] is a guy that if you are putting your resources toward 17 [Adams], he can win one-on-ones," Joseph said. "Again, that is part of the equation. If you are going to take away 17 with something, you are going to leave Renfrow one-on-one with someone. Again, it’s a cat-and-mouse game. We will see how it works on Sunday, but that is always a challenge. They have a lot of weapons, not just those three. The tight end is a good, young player. He’s a first-round pick. You have a young guy in [Tre] Tucker who has big-time speed, and [DeAndre] Carter from the Chargers has some speed. There are a lot of weapons that they have. This offense was good. It was an explosive offense last year, so it hasn’t changed much and Jimmy [Garoppolo] is a winner. We haven’t seen him play in a Vegas uniform, but he’s a winner. I faced him for four years and he has always won a lot of games. Again, it’ll be a challenge for us to get them stopped.”
Joseph will have several pass catchers to account for on Sunday, and he mentioned some of the ancillary weapons on the Raiders’ offense like Tre Tucker and DeAndre Carter.
Joseph’s defense has a few very good pieces, and he will need them to step up and take on the challenge of slowing down the Raiders’ elite receiver room.
The Silver and Black open the regular season at the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4:25 p.m. EDT/1:25 p.m. PDT.
