Raiders Opponent Head Coach Spotlight: Dan Campbell
After a brutal loss on the road to the Chicago Bears, the Las Vegas Raiders will turn their attention to their next game against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit for another prime-time showdown on Monday Night Football.
The Lions are coming off their worst loss of the season against the Baltimore Ravens, in which they scored only one touchdown. Despite this loss, the Lions (5-2) have been one of the best teams in the NFL this season.
Coach Dan Campbell has been one of the biggest reasons why the Lions became one of the league's top teams in 2023. Campbell, who is in his third season as head coach of the Lions, carries a 22-29-1 record as a head coach.
Campbell was hired by the Lions ahead of the 2021 season. Before that, he was associate head coach and tight ends coach of the New Orleans Saints. He was also interim head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2015 after Joe Philbin was fired and went 5-7.
Campbell is well known for his aggressive coaching style. The Lions lead the NFL in fourth down attempts in 2023 with 16 through the season's first seven games. With one of the top offenses in the NFL, Campbell is not afraid to keep his offense on the field.
The Lions won only three games in Campbell’s first season but have turned it around. Since Week 13 of the 2022 season, the Lions are 10-3. Four of their five victories this season have been by 14 points or more.
The Raiders’ defense must be ready for the Lions’ explosive offense. Detroit is fourth in the NFL in total yards per game and eighth in the NFL in points per game. They have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and are efficient at running and throwing the ball.
Campbell has been instrumental in the Lions’ development into one of the best teams in the NFL. They will be a tough test for the Raiders on the road, so Coach Josh McDaniels must be ready for Campbell’s game plan.
The Silver and Black will stay on the road to take on the Detroit Lions on Monday night, October 30, at 8:15 p.m. EDT/5:15 p.m. PDT.
