Raiders Opponent QB Spotlight: Jared Goff
After a loss to the Chicago Bears, the Las Vegas Raiders will remain on the road as they take on the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit on Monday Night Football.
The Lions have become one of the best teams in football this season but are coming off a blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Their usually high-scoring offense was held to one touchdown.
Despite the loss, the Lions still have one of the most explosive offenses in the league. They are fourth in the NFL in total yards per game and eighth in the league in points per game.
One of the reasons the Lions have been so efficient offensively has been the play of quarterback Jared Goff, who is having a career season and has been one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL.
Through seven games this season, Goff has completed 68 percent of his passes for 1,902 yards, 11 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He is Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded quarterback in the NFL this season.
Goff was the No. 1 overall selection of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 NFL Draft out of California. As a member of the Golden Bears, Goff passed for more than 12,000 yards and 96 touchdowns.
As a member of the Rams, Goff was a two-time Pro Bowler and played in Super Bowl LII. After five seasons in Los Angeles, Goff and several draft picks were traded to the Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Goff has played well since joining the Lions, passing for more than 9,000 yards and 59 touchdowns in three seasons. He is 6-foot-4 and 217 pounds with a strong arm and decent mobility.
Goff last faced the Raiders in 2018, throwing for 233 yards, two touchdowns and one interception as the Rams won the game, 33-13.
The Raiders will face Goff in prime-time as he plays the best football of his career. Under Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson, the Lions’ offense has been one of the best units in the NFL.
Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham will have to find ways to slow down Goff and the Lions’ offense, which many teams in the league have not been able to this season.
The Silver and Black will stay on the road to take on the Detroit Lions on Monday night, October 30, at 8:15 p.m. EDT/5:15 p.m. PDT.
