The Las Vegas Raiders' and star running back Josh Jacobs' failure to reach an agreement on a contract extension Monday is perhaps the most chaotic franchise-tag situation Raider Nation has experienced.

And it hasn't experienced many of them.

The event is the team's most significant franchise tag since it declared Hall-of-Fame cornerback Charles Woodson a franchise player in back-to-back seasons (2004 and 2005).

Woodson was the first Raider ever to receive the franchise tag.

The team, which resided in Oakland at the time, placed an exclusive tag on the three-time first-team All-Pro cornerback in 2004 following the expiration of his rookie contract.

A year later, the Raiders placed a non-exclusive tender on Woodson.

That 2005-06 season would be the last of his first stint in Oakland before he signed with the Green Bay Packers the following offseason.

After Woodson, there was cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

The Raiders placed an exclusive tag on the two-time first-team All-Pro cornerback during the 2008 offseason.

The following year, he and Oakland agreed on a $43.5 million, three-year deal, which at the time, made him the highest-paid defensive back in league history.

Asomugha would play only one more season with the Raiders, as the team chose not to pick up his third-year option, letting him walk as a free agent.

He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles before finishing his career with the San Francisco 49ers.

The Raiders then used their franchise tag for the 2010 offseason on Hall-of-Fame defensive lineman Richard Seymour.

This followed his first season with Oakland, which acquired the three-time Super Bowl champion in a trade with the New England Patriots.

Seymour would sign the exclusive tender in June of that year after it had been placed on him that February.

He and Oakland agreed on a two-year contract the following year, making him the league's highest-paid defensive player.

That same offseason, the Raiders placed their franchise tag on linebacker Kamerion Wimbley, which he signed a few days later.

That season, however, would be the last of his two in Oakland.

Lastly, the most recent franchise tag used by the Raiders before Jacobs was on safety Tyvon Branch in 2012. He signed it that May.

Branch played seven seasons in Oakland.

The Las Vegas Raiders open training camp for the entire team on July 25, 2023.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
