Four Things to Know About Raiders New GM Tom Telesco
On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders officially hired Tom Telesco as their general manager. Telesco is the ninth general manager in Raiders history.
There are four facts about the new general manager, starting with his first experience working in the NFL.
In 1991, Telesco cut his teeth as an intern for the Buffalo Bills. He worked in the Bills organization through the 104 season.
He took that experience and turned it into a job as a scouting assistant for the Carolina Panthers in 1995. In 1997, he was promoted to an area scout.
In 1998, he joined the Indianapolis Colts as an area scout and stayed with the organization until 2012, finally rising to vice president of football operations.
In 2013, Telesco was hired as the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers general manager,
In his 11 seasons for the Chargers, Telesco selected numerous players who would become Pro Bowl players.
Telescois is a disciple of the man many consider a member of the Mount Rushmore of NFL executives in Bill Polian.
Telesco served on Polian's staff with both the Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts.
The new Raiders GM hails from Hamburg, New York. In his time there, according to Raiders.com, “he played football with now Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll at St. Francis High School (Telesco was a wide receiver/cornerback, Daboll was a safety).”
Telesco played wide receiver at John Carroll University (the same school as the previous GM Dave Ziegler). While participating for the Blue Streaks, he won a championship in 1991/
Seeing what Telesco brings to the Silver and Black as the new general manager this offseason and in the coming seasons will be exciting to watch for the franchise.
From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
