Jakobi Meyers Opens Up About Infamous Play Against Raiders

Newly-added Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers was on the wrong side of the Raiders' wildest play of last season.
In this story:

While wide receiver Jakobi Meyers will be hoping to leave his mark as a Las Vegas Raider in this next chapter of his career, the former New England Patriots wideout will always be remembered by Raider Nation for one play in particular.

That play, of course, was the Raiders' miraculous walk-off finish to their showdown with New England at Allegiant Stadium last season when Meyers threw a lateral pass into the hands of Raiders edge rusher Chandler Jones, who took it to the house for the game-winner.

Meyers, who enters his fifth NFL season, was prepared to reminisce upon the moment in his introductory press conference on Thursday.

"I was waiting on it," the 26-year-old wideout said with a smile when asked to recall the play.

His tone changed soon after.

"I mean, that was a humbling experience as a man, as a football player," Meyers said. "That was just tough. I knew what it meant to the team that I was on at the time. So it really hurt me because, like I said, family is really big for me. So when I went through it, in the moment, my heart was broken. But days after, just seeing how guys kind of rallied around me, it built me up as a person. So now I know, like whenever one of my teammates messes up, who I want to be in that situation. Like how I want to help them, what type of love, what type of support I want to give.

"Now, if you ask me directly what happened, I don't know. That's the truth. I really don't know. I had the ball and then I didn't have the ball. You know what I mean? That was the end of it. But as far as growth, it taught me a lot about myself and how I want to help people in the future."

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo.

The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
