Report: Raiders a Good Fit for This NFL Draft QB
The Las Vegas Raiders have the 13th overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, which keeps them in range to still select a quality player without having to trade up.
Or, if they do trade up a few spots, it shouldn't cost them much to do so.
Las Vegas has flexibility in the draft and has multiple positions that need to be addressed. However, CBS Sports NFL Draft writer Josh Edwards notes the Raiders could find quality talent at positions of need in all draft rounds.
Edwards listed the best quarterbacks in the draft a few teams around the NFL should take a chance on.
"The Jimmy Garoppolo experiment is coming to an end in Las Vegas," Edwards said. "They will bring in competition for Aidan O'Connell, who will be entering his second season with the organization. (Spencer) Rattler seems to have a personality that would appeal to owner Mark Davis. Rattler made the most of a bad situation in Columbia this season, having played behind a new offensive line combination essentially every week."
Edwards believes Rattler's ability to successfully pass from the pocket, yet be mobile enough to make plays with his feet when needed, could be ideal for new Raiders Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy.
"The construction of the coaching staff suggests Las Vegas could prefer a more traditional pocket passer like O'Connell. Head coach Antonio Pierce played alongside Eli Manning," Edwards said.
"Quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello was drawn to Lexington by the presence of Will Levis and has extensive history working with Kyle Shanahan. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy did most recently work with Justin Fields in Chicago, but had previously worked with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay.
"There was a period where it looked as though Getsy and Fields were on different pages trying to blend in the the Packers offense, but the two parties adapted and actually put some quality play together towards the end of the season."
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
