The Las Vegas Raiders had some rather disappointing news to share with an already anguished Raider Nation following the team's 23-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night.

Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels announced to the media on Monday that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is in concussion protocol.

The veteran quarterback was evaluated for a concussion right after the loss on Sunday, resulting in the cancelling of his post-game media availability.

As far as when exactly or how exactly the injury transpired, McDaniels is still unsure.

"There was nothing ever mentioned ... or talked about relative to that," he said. "I'm not even sure what, when, what hit, or if it was just a cumulation of -- I have no idea. There was never a conversation about that, so I'm not sure exactly. And I haven't seen him yet this morning. So, I'm not exactly sure when it took place or if it was just a culmination of things."

Garoppolo has been injury prone throughout his 10-year NFL career. He missed the last five games of the San Francisco 49ers' regular season last year, as well as the 2022-23 postseason, when he went down due to a broken foot against the Miami Dolphins in Week 13.

For now, it's too early to decide who will take the starting quarterback role in Week 4 if Garoppolo is unable to play. The Raiders have solid options in veteran Brian Hoyer and promising rookie Aidan O'Connell.

"We'll prepare for everybody," McDaniels said. "I mean we've got to -- obviously, that would change things relative to Aidan [O'Connell] also if Jimmy [Garoppolo] was not able to progress through the protocol to be able to play. So, we'll be hard at work to properly manage that situation as best we can as it progresses through the week."

Garoppolo has passed for 709 yards and five touchdowns while also throwing six interceptions this season.

The Silver and Black return to the road next week in Inglewood, Calif., to play the Los Angeles Chargers (1-2) on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
