Garoppolo, Adams on Working With Jacobs
Jimmy Garoppolo never had the benefit of working with Josh Jacobs before3, but he does now.
With Jacobs now back out on the field with the Silver and Black, the two stars finally have the opportunity to establish some chemistry before their season begins this weekend.
"I mean, it's just about getting the reps in," the Las Vegas Raiders quarterback said on Wednesday. "Josh knows all this stuff already being here last year and everything. But just getting on the same page with him, a couple of swing routes, check down routes, things like that. We're trying to get on the same page. With the run game, I mean he's as good as they come, so it makes my job pretty easy."
Garoppolo has been working with the same group of running backs in the backfield for over a month now. As far as adding Jacobs into the mix goes, however, the veteran quarterback does not see a drastic change in the operation.
"Everyone's a little different, but for the most part, our backs, they're very consistent," Garoppolo said. "They all follow suit, fall right into line. It's awesome; a great group of guys."
Players like All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams, who have worked with Jacobs before, know what it means to have the star running back back in the locker room.
"I mean, I've noticed it in my mood, other guys' moods," Adams said. "Just having a key piece of your football team around, it's going to naturally boost everybody's mood, their willingness to come to work. Everybody's been coming to work and it's been the same as it was last year, but it's a little bit more fire when you get one of your guys back and get a guy like Josh back who is a captain, a leader of this football team. It kind of, like I said, gives the team a little extra juice."
The Silver and Black open the regular season at the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4:25 p.m. EDT/1:25 p.m. PDT.
