Crosby vs. Williams is Matchup of League's Best
The Las Vegas Raiders matched up with the San Francisco 49ers in joint practice this week.
During this practice, two of the best players in the NFL have been battling. Raiders’ star defensive end Maxx Crosby and 49ers' left tackle Trent Williams are two of the best players at their respective positions.
Crosby was ranked at No. 17 by his colleagues in the NFL Top 100 list, and Williams was ranked at No. 14. Between those two players, they have a combined 12 Pro Bowl appearances.
Crosby addressed the media at training camp and spoke about what matching up with Williams does for both players.
“Oh, I love it,” Crosby said. “Me and Trent [Williams] had some great reps today, we were getting after it and we were chopping it up after as well. He’s the best in the game, so me and him, we had a couple of one-on-ones and a couple team reps against each other, and that’s what it’s all about. I want to be the best in the league. I know he’s literally the best in the league. So yeah, just being able to get those reps and get better is what football is about.”
Crosby had high praise for Williams, calling him the best player in football at his position. Those two players matching up and getting reps against each other is a true ‘iron-sharpens-iron’ situation.
“Oh yeah, for sure,” Crosby said. “We were talking about my second one-on-one where I did like an outside spin to a power and he was like: ‘I don’t even know what the hell you’re doing. I thought you’re going to power then it turned into a spin,’ he was like: ‘I just grabbed.’ But that’s what it’s about, just really having that dialogue, because like I said, the guy’s going into year 14. He’s gone against everybody, he’s played at an elite level for years and years and years. So, I can learn from him, he could learn from me and that’s really what it’s all about. Once you get to that level, you’re just trying to find that 1 percent you can get better at. So yeah, it was a ton of fun.”
The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
