Josh Jacobs Going Back to College Jersey Number

Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs is switching to the jersey number he wore at Alabama.

Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs will no longer don the No. 28 he's worn the last four seasons.

Jacobs tweeted a graphic of himself in a No. 8 jersey on Monday. The NFL Twitter page then confirmed the running back will be switching over to that number going forward.

When Jacobs first came into the league as the 24th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, running backs were unable to wear single-digit numbers.

In 2021, a proposal was approved that allowed for running backs, tight ends, fullbacks, H-backs and wide receivers to wear numbers 1-49 and 80-89.

This past March, the league declared such positions can also wear No. 0 now as well.

Jacobs wore No. 8 at Alabama, where he played three seasons and won a national title in the 2017-18 season.

Jacobs finished his career with the Crimson Tide with 1,491 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns to go along with 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

He was awarded MVP of the 2018 SEC title game after posting 83 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The 25-year-old running back won last season's NFL rushing title with 1,653 rushing yards, while also leading the league in rushing yards per game (97.2). He also led the league in total yards from scrimmage with 2,053.

Jacobs earned his first-ever first-team All-Pro honors and was selected to his second Pro Bowl.

While the star Raider has not yet reached a long-term deal with Las Vegas heading into this season, his Twitter post should be perceived with hope for Raider Nation as the 2023 season approaches.

The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:

OTA Offseason workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 31-June 2, June 12-15

Mandatory Minicamp: June 6-8
