Josh McDaniels on QBs Hoyer and O'Connell
The question of who will be the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday has been answered.
Raiders starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was ruled out against the Chicago Bears due to a back injury he sustained last week against the New England Patriots.
Veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer will get the start against the Bears on Sunday in Soldier Field.
Hoyer came into the game the second half last week against the New England Patriots after Garoppolo went down. Hoyer finished the game throwing six completions on 10 attempts for 102 yards.
Rookie quarterback O'Connell has had one start for the Raiders this season against the Los Angeles Chargers. He threw 24 completions on 39 attempts for 238 yards in his first NFL start. O'Connell also ran for a touchdown.
Head coach Josh McDaniels had the opportunity to speak to the media about Hoyer and O'Connell and how both are helping with the Raiders' Week 7 game process without Garoppolo.
“Yeah, I think their room is tremendous, in terms of their overall communication with one another, the relationships they formed," McDaniels said. "You've got one guy with very little experience and he's siphoning all that he can from Jimmy [Garoppolo] and Hoy [Brian Hoyer]. They talk through certain things in the meeting room in real time. And I think the reality is none of them has a big ego. When Brian was going to back up Aidan, he was ready to go support him and did all the right things like I knew he would, and he's that done his whole career. Jimmy's been the same way when he hasn't played. That's the way a good room should operate and function. At the end of the day, one of them is going to play and they should all want that guy to go out there and play well for the Raiders, and the goal was for us is to win.”
The Silver and Black head out on the road to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1:05 p.m. EDT/10:05 a.m. PDT.
