Raiders' Josh McDaniels: 'Momentum is Just a Word'
The Las Vegas Raiders looked like they had come into Highmark Stadium ready to give the Buffalo Bills a run for their money early in the first quarter of their Week 2 road game.
In only five plays in the first two minutes and 44 seconds of the game, the Raiders went 75 yards to go up, 7-0, largely thanks to a couple big plays from wide receiver Davante Adams.
From that point forward, though, there wasn't a whole lot for Raider Nation to cheer about.
Buffalo would go on to defeat Las Vegas, 38-10, having especially prospered from a second-half shutout.
"I thought we created some momentum at the beginning of the game, but momentum is just a word," Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels said when he addressed the media after his team's loss. "You need to play well and coach well for 60 minutes. You can't just live off the momentum of a drive. You know? We had five decent plays and then, you know, that didn't play very well the rest of the game."
Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw two interceptions in the loss, including one on a screen pass that was one of the key momentum changers in the game.
"I thought we got off to a good start like we wanted to," Garoppolo said. "We talked about it all week doing that. But yeah, we just didn't sustain it. It starts with myself. I mean I made way too many mistakes -- physical, mental, whatever; just all of it.
"And then yeah, we just couldn't get into a rhythm. To beat a good team like that at their place, you've got to play a lot better than that, and they just took advantage of us."
The Bills had the ball for almost twice as many plays as the Raiders' offense, 74 to 39.
The Silver and Black return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:20 p.m. EDT/5:20 p.m. PDT.
