Raiders Must Contain Chiefs DL Chris Jones

The Las Vegas Raiders are going to deal with Kansas City Chiefs star defensive lineman Chris Jones once again on Sunday.

The Las Vegas Raiders are trying to gain ground in the AFC playoff hunt, and after one tough test comes another.

The Raiders will host their arch-rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday. The Chiefs are coming off a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Despite that loss, the Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the AFC this season, and the defending Super Bowl champions are still the team to beat. The Raiders will get their first shot at their rivals this season.

One player who has been a thorn in the Raiders’ side for years is defensive lineman Chris Jones, who is one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL and has disrupted opposing offensive lines for years.

The four-time Pro Bowler and 2022 First-Team All-Pro is off to another good start this season. After missing the first game, he signed a one-year contract extension with the Chiefs early in September.

In nine games this season, Jones has 22 tackles, nine tackles for losses, 15 quarterback hits and seven and a half sacks. He is coming off of a two-sack game against the Eagles.

According to Pro Football Focus, Jones has produced 36 total pressures this season. The former second-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State has separated himself as the star of the Chiefs’ defense.

At 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, Jones offers the Chiefs versatility on the defensive line. He can rush from the interior and also be a problem off the edge. He has played a majority of his snaps on the edge but has played most of the last two games on the interior.

Both the Raiders’ tackles and interior linemen will have to take on the challenge of Jones, which has been a problem for them in the past. In 14 games against the Silver and Black, Jones has 40 tackles, eight tackles for losses, six passes defended and seven and a half sacks.

The Raiders would like to get left tackle Kolton Miller back for this game to give rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell time to throw against this tough Chiefs defense. Jones can single-handedly wreck a game with his pass-rushing ability.

The Raiders are trying to keep pace in the AFC West, and if they want to beat the Chiefs, defensively, it starts with containing Jones.

The Silver and Black will return home this week to celebrate Thanksgiving and take on their AFC West rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday, November 26, at 4:25 p.m. EST/1:25 p.m. PST.
