O'Connell Is An Intriguing Quarterback For the Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco and Coach Antonio Pierce have many decisions to make this offseason, including who the starting quarterback will be moving forward.
Some options include signing a veteran quarterback, selecting a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, or sticking with Aidan O'Connell.
In his rookie season with the Raiders, O'Connell showed a lot of flashes that made him an intriguing quarterback and put the rest of the league on notice, ending the 2023-24 NFL regular season with a 5-5 record and 3-1 in the AFC West.
In the most recent episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast, our Hondo Carpenter Sr. mentioned and discussed how O'Connell is an intriguing quarterback for the Raiders.
Carpenter was joined by Matt Hladik, the editor and publisher at thespun.com.
Hladik had the opportunity to share his thoughts on O'Connell.
"In the Raiders' own division, you have (Patrick) Mahomes and (Justin) Herbert," Hladik said. "You have those guys who are more uber-talented. At least this offseason, Aidan O'Connell is not enough to prevent me from adding another quarterback. But if I don't feel comfortable trading and getting one of those three guys.
"I don't have a problem if I'm the Raiders keeping Aidan on adding a vet, if you do, or adding a vet and adding another quarterback who's outside of that top three in the draft and kind of bringing him in see where they fit.
"His floor is a solid career backup, but his ceiling could be somebody who's a capable starter around the league, depending on how he develops."
