Getsy Has Lots of Experience as a Coach

New Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy of the Las Vegas Raiders has plenty of success an experience as a coach.

The Las Vegas Raiders' search for an offensive coordinator has officially been resolved with the hiring of Luke Getsy.

The 39-year-old Getsy has nine years of coaching experience in the NFL. His most recent coaching experience was as the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears for the last two seasons.

In the most recent episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast, our Hondo Carpenter Sr. had the opportunity to dive deeper into Getsy and his respect as a coach and an offensive coordinator all around the NFL.

Getsy has had success and experience as a coach, starting as a college quarterback at Pittsburgh and the University of Akron.

As a quarterback at Akron, Getsy led the Zips to their first-ever conference title and accomplished many things as a player.

After playing college football, Getsy went back to Akron as a graduate assistant and later to Pittsburgh, and had the chance to work with defensive-minded Coach Dave Wannstedt.

After his time with Akron and Pittsburgh, Getsy coached at Western Michigan with current University of Minnesota Coach P.J. Fleck, and had great success.

Getsy later gets an opportunity to be the offensive coordinator at Mississippi State, and the Bulldogs averaged 29 points per game, 11th in the strength of schedule, 397 offensive yards and only one turnover against SEC talent.

Getsy earned respect in the NFL after his success with the Bulldogs and his first experience in the league was with the Green Bay Packers as an offensive quality control coach and later wide receivers coach. He succeeded greatly, participating in six winning seasons with the Packers.

Overall, Getsy has had lots of success and experience as an NFL coach, and it will be fascinating to see what he will bring as the offensive coordinator for the Silver and Black.
