Raiders-Chargers Earned Lowest TNF Rating of the Season
The Las Vegas Raiders might have broken records in their astonishing 63-21 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday, but the game as a whole stood on its own in a more negative aspect.
According to Sports Media Watch, Thursday's AFC West game between the Raiders and Chargers was the least-watched (7.98 million viewers) and the lowest-rated (3.9 rating average) TNF game on Amazon Prime Video this season.
It ended the streaming service's 12-game streak of gains from last season. Thursday night's game was the first TNF game to decline this season. Amazon Prime Video's coverage of TNF is still up 25 percent in viewership this season compared to last.
Thursday's game came only two weeks after the Dallas Cowboys vs. Seattle Seahawks game on Thursday night on Week 13 broke Amazon's TNF viewership record with 15.26 million.
The previous least-watched game on Amazon Prime Video this season was the Carolina Panthers vs. Chicago Bears Week 12 TNF game, with a viewership of 9.56 million. The previous lowest-rated game had been the Black Friday game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets (4.0).
Thursday's game was the fifth least-watched game of the season, regardless of network. The bottom four were all the International Series games this year.
Of course, Thursday's lack of viewership could be since Las Vegas led 42-0 at halftime and ended up winning, 63-21.
It was the Raiders' first Thursday night game of the season and fifth prime-time game. They tied the season series against the Chargers for the third straight season and have a three-game winning streak against their division opponent at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
This is only the second season Amazon Prime Video has been the sole host of TNF. The streaming service previously shared the weekly event during the 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons.
The Silver and Black will return to action versus their AFC West rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Christmas Day at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Don't miss it on Monday, December 25, at 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST.
