Crosby Wishes to Remove "Interim" From Pierce's Title
The Las Vegas Raiders will have important decisions to make after the season. None are more important than whether or not Las Vegas decides to keep Interim General Manager Champ Kelly and Interim Coach Antonio Pierce.
Veteran defensive lineman Maxx Crosby has had a special connection with both since they've been with the team, and has made it clear multiple times that he wants both to remain at their respective position, minus the "interim" titles.
"I've been very honest and very open about it because I love those guys," Crosby said. "AP [Antonio Pierce] and Champ [Kelly], I've been close with them ever since they've been here before they got those jobs.
"Selfishly, I want them to continue to be the head coach and GM. I've been very honest with them. I told Mark [Davis] the same thing. For me, I take it as extra motivation to help this team win, so they can be in the position they are in now for the long term."
Crosby points to the fact that he has seen many changes during his time with the Raiders. Not only does he feel keeping Kelly and Pierce would help build stability, but Crosby also feels the team has shown progress under Pierce.
"I've had a lot of head coaches and a lot of change in my five years," Crosby said. "I just want stability and honesty. I feel like AP and Champ are everything that represents and comes with that.
"Those guys are super honest. They're straightforward, and I think they're doing an incredible job. Obviously, they didn't have any time to prepare for this, but they've come in and didn't blink.
"All the guys are buying in. You see our team play in these last four games. Even though we're 2-2, we've made incredible improvements. We're looking forward to finishing the season strong."
Kelly and Pierce receiving the support of their players, especially those of Crosby's caliber, should speak volumes to Davis. For a locker room and an organization that has experienced so much over the last few years, including hiring the incorrect coach, stability could go a long way.
The Silver and Black will return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to take on the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, December 10, at 4:05 p.m. EST/1:05 p.m. PST.
