Maxx Crosby Receives Zero Votes for DPOY Award

Maxx Crosby had the best season of his career this season, but the Las Vegas Raiders defensive end received zero votes for the Defensive Player of the Year Award.

The Las Vegas Raiders have one of the best defensive linemen in the league on their roster. 

Veteran defensive end Maxx Crosby had a career season in 2022 and an even better one in 2023. After posting 89 tackles and 12.5 sacks in 2022, Crosby tallied 90 tackles and 14.5 sacks in 2023, leading the way for an improved Raiders defense. 

Crosby steadily improved his play in each one of his seasons in the National Football League, with this season being the best of his five-year career. 

The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Crosby arguably is the best defensive end in the NFL. He has the numbers to prove it and his motor is unlike any defensive lineman in the league. 

Crosby finished sixth in the league in sacks this season and he was third on the Raiders in total tackles, ending the season with 94 pressures and two forced fumbles. He also impacted games differently than what shows up on a stat sheet.

Crosby played some of the best football of any defensive player this season and was, therefore, named a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year Award, being a finalist along with T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns.

Crosby's relentless play has endeared him to the Raiders fan base and has caught the attention of his peers across the league.

"I think he's one of the best, for sure," San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa told Sean Zittel Vegas Sports Today. "He's definitely up there with the best this year. I think he's earned it. I just admire his game because he wins in so many different ways."

That same level of respect was not shown in the Defensive Player of the Year Award voting numbers, as Crosby received zero votes. Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett would ultimately win the award after finishing with 48 fewer tackles than Crosby. 

Garrett had a spectacular season for the Browns and deserved to win the award as much as anyone. Multiple players had a legitimate argument to be named DPOY. 

However, it is unbelievable that Crosby did not receive any votes.
