Crosby Climbing the Ladder to NFL Greatness
The lack of coaching stability has been quite inconvenient for the Las Vegas Raiders recently.
But don't tell that to Maxx Crosby. Despite the lack a stable coaching staff to build on, driven by an amazing work ethic, he has risen to be the best defensive end in the NFL and is working his way to NFL greatness.
For players still in the early stages of their careers trying to develop, that can be tough when they require a foundation to build off.
That lack of stability hasn't exactly impacted Crosby, though, as the Pro Bowl pass rusher continues to get better year after year.
One personal achievement Crosby has left to add to his resume, though, is a first-team All-Pro selection, which would allow him to officially stake his claim as the best in the NFL at his position.
Perhaps returning to the same defensive scheme under defensive coordinator Patrick Graham could help the 25-year-old edge rusher reach that objective. After all, Crosby hasn't been in one defensive system for consecutive seasons since the 2020 campaign.
"Last OTAs, it was a lot," Crosby told media members on Thursday. "Obviously, Pat [Graham] was new. He was installing a bunch of new stuff trying to get everything in before we get to camp. So everything was just like, you're just learning and trying to just figure everything out on the fly. But now, having another year, being able to help the guys that just got in, it's going to help them as well. So things are going a lot smoother.
"We're focusing on skill development right now, focusing on getting better as football players, because at the end of the day, you can call it whatever you want, but if you're not a good football player, it doesn't matter. So guys are really locked in right now, we're working. We're working on our craft, and it's been great to see. Everyone's dialed in, we have dudes with great attitudes and with a lot of talent, and are showing up every day, so it's been encouraging to see."
Recognized or not by a first-team All-Pro selection, he is the best defensive end in the NFL today. But being the best for one year, two, or even three doesn't equal NFL greatness. That comes over a career, landing in Canton, Ohio, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
That's a place that Crosby's work ethic proves is on his radar.
The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:
