First Round Mock Draft has Raiders Drafting CB

In Mel Kiper’s latest two-round projection Mock Draft, he has the Las Vegas Raiders selecting the top cornerback and guard in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The 2023 NFL Draft is only two weeks away, and the Las Vegas Raiders have a lot to consider regarding who they will be selecting with 12 picks.

For the last month, Mock Drafts have been published nearly every day, and as we near the start of the draft, more of them are starting to look more valid.

This week, TV personality and long-time ESPN Draft Analyst Mel Kiper released his latest projection of the draft's first two rounds. He has the Silver and Black selecting one of the top cornerbacks and offensive linemen with their first two picks.

Kiper is projecting the Raiders will select Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon with the seventh overall selection.

The Raiders need help across the entire defense, but with many of the top defensive linemen off the board, the Raiders could go after the best defensive player available.

“Witherspoon had 41 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, three interceptions, and 14 passes broken up this season. Witherspoon was one of the nation’s top cornerbacks and according to Pro Football Focus had the ninth-highest defensive grade of all players in the country who played at least 100 snaps. The Raiders need to improve their pass defense, and selecting Witherspoon would be a great start in doing so,” Kiper said of Witherspoon.

As for their second-round selection (38th overall), Kiper has the Silver and Black selecting the top interior offensive lineman of the draft, O'Cyrus Torrence from Florida.

The biggest weakness of the Raiders' offense has been the offensive line, and while last year’s draft scored on one side of the interior line, this year’s draft can solidify the other side.

Torrence is by far the best interior lineman in the entire draft; his strength moves players in the run game and holds up elite pass rushers.

As for the Raiders, they might not want to call it a rebuilding season, but there’s no denying the need for quality depth across the entire roster.

The Silver and Black need to draft players who can come in and step in from day one and not waste any of the early picks on players who need development.
