Raiders Select Michael Mayer With No. 35 Overall Pick of 2023 NFL Draft
The Las Vegas Raiders traded their No. 38th overall pick and No. 141 pick to the Indianapolis Colts for the 35th pick early in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday.
With that pick, the Raiders selected Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer.
Mayer was a 2022 John Mackey Award finalist, awarded annually to the top tight end in college football, and was named a first-team All-American after he totaled 809 yards and nine touchdowns on 67 receptions in 12 games.
The season before, Mayer posted 840 yards on 71 receptions, breaking the program's record for most receiving yards by a Notre Dame tight end in a single season. He also added seven touchdowns.
In total, he played three seasons for the Fighting Irish, having registered 2,099 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns.
Mayer had an impressive NFL Combine, as NFL Next Gen Stats gave him a production score of 85, the second-best by all tight end prospects.
A native of Independence, Kentucky, Mayer played for Covington Catholic High School.
He was named a four-star recruit by 247Sports, Rivals.com and ESPN.
