The Las Vegas Raiders were incredibly active in the offseason, bringing in lots of new faces on both sides of the ball.

Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler are  entering their second season in charge of the team, and they used this offseason to build the team in their vision.

That included bringing in several players from the New England Patriots, where both McDaniels and Ziegler were previously. One of the players they brought over from Foxborough was wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.

Meyers joined the Raiders on a three-year, $33 million contract after steadily improving his production each of the last two seasons. He posted a career-high 866 receiving yards in 2021, and a career-high six receiving touchdowns in 2022, along with 804 yards.

This improvement, along with sharp route running, strong hands, and a familiarity with the system in place in Las Vegas, all enticed the Raiders to bring in Meyers and pay him a big contract.

Now, Meyers is likely to be more heavily featured in an offense that already fits him. It’s possible that he ends up having an even better season with the Raiders in 2023 than he had in the past two years.

One of the main reasons for this, along with already being in an offensive system that supports his skill set, is the fact that he is now going to be lined up across the field from Davante Adams, a three-time First Team All-Pro. Meyers has never had a teammate like Adams, who will take a majority of the attention of the defense.

Because of all the attention Adams will demand, Meyers will likely see more one-on-one looks against his defender, and the more opportunities he gets like that, the more opportunities he has to win those match-ups.

Bringing in Meyers was an effort by the Raiders to give new quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo a receiver who could win over the middle of the field with crossing routes and in short yardage situations. Their individual skill sets complement each other almost perfectly.

Meyers has everything around him on the Raiders in order to succeed, and if he continues to work hard at his craft and improve, has a great chance to have the best season of his career in 2023.
