Raiders Prepare to Renew Rivalry with the Chiefs
The Las Vegas Raiders head into the home stretch of their season with four of their next six games at home, the first of which is against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
The Raiders will play the Chiefs twice in the next four weeks.
"They know us; they are on a short week," Interim Coach Antonio Pierce of the Raiders said. "I mean, they probably have the game plan against us. They know us like the back of their hand. And the same here.
"Obviously, we have a lot of respect for what Andy [Reid] has done there, [Steve] Spagnuolo, Patrick Mahomes, [Travis] Kelce, Chris Jones, name them, they have All-Pros across the board. It's a challenge. The rivalry, this has been a team that's obviously won Super Bowls, and they're a championship-caliber team.
"They've dominated the division since Patrick Mahomes has taken over at quarterback. It's our job to go out there and give us the best fight. But give them their flowers, they're the defending Super Bowl champions. And regardless of what happened on Monday night, we expect the best from them."
Veteran wide receiver Davante Adams says there is a difference in the locker room as the rivalry game approaches.
“Yeah, you can definitely feel it," Adams said. "There is definitely something extra. For the way that they've historically won that battle, you would think that it wouldn't be as much.
"I think the way we would approach the [Chicago] Bears game when I was in Green Bay, it wasn’t like: ‘Oh my God, like we've got to get up for the Bears.’ It was like a disrespectful approach almost, and sometimes you feel that from them out there, which at the end of the day they play how they want to play, and sometimes you feel that they kind of respect that game. They take it to the grave, so they was good battles, and it's two good teams going at it. So, we've just got to do our part to make sure we come out on top.”
The Raiders are 4-1 at home this season, and the Chiefs (7-3) have had trouble scoring points in the second half of games. The Raiders must find a way to take advantage of being at home and the Chiefs' struggles on offense.
The Silver and Black will return home this week to celebrate Thanksgiving and take on their AFC West rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday, November 26, at 4:25 p.m. EST/1:25 p.m. PST.
