Raiders Under Contract: TE John Samuel Shenker

Las Vegas Raiders tight end John Samuel Shenker is on a one-year, $795,000 contract.

Las Vegas Raiders tight end John Samuel Shenker is one of the team's few undrafted free-agent signings from last offseason who is still on the roster.

After not playing in a regular season game in his first NFL season, Shenker was signed by Las Vegas to a reserve/future contract last month. His one-year contract is worth $795,000.

Shenker posted a nine-yard reception in the 2023 preseason before making the 53-man roster. The Raiders would release him twice in October before he was signed to the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad in December. They released him less than a week later.

The Raiders then signed Shenker back to their practice squad a few days later.

Before being signed by Las Vegas as an undrafted free agent in 2023, Shenker spent six seasons (five active) at the University of Auburn, becoming one of the program's greatest tight ends. 

Shenker entered the NFL fresh off a 2022 campaign in which he broke Auburn's record for career catches by a tight end, finished with the second-most career receiving yards by a tight end in school history at 799, and played the 68 games, the most any player in program history.

Shenker's best season was his 2021 campaign, when he totaled 413 yards on 33 receptions, both of which were program records by a tight end in a season.

Even before becoming a permanent starter for the Tigers in his final three college seasons, Shenker made five starts in 13 games in 2019. He played in only three games in the 2018 season after redshirting in 2017.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
