The Las Vegas Raiders endured a harsh and disappointing 2022 season and are looking to put that behind them as they turn their focus to 2023.

With a revamped roster one year into the regime of Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler, the Raiders hope to be more competitive in the AFC playoff picture.

One thing that must improve if the Raiders return to the postseason is their road record. The Raiders were only 2-7 in road games last season, the fifth-worst road record in the NFL.

Those two road wins came in consecutive weeks, the first at Empower Field at Mile High against the Denver Broncos and then at Lumen Field against the Seattle Seahawks. Both wins came in walk-off fashion in overtime.

Let’s look at a few of the Raiders' road losses and see how they can be better in 2023.

One of the Raiders’ more notable losses was their Week 9 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Field. The Raiders were walking all over the Jaguars, holding a 17-0 lead at one point. They took a 20-10 lead into halftime.

However, this game was a tale of two halves, as the Jaguars scored a touchdown on their opening drive of the second half to make it a one-score game. The Raiders quickly came off the field, and the Jaguars went on another scoring drive to take the lead. The Jaguars closed out a solid second half with a 27-20 victory.

On Christmas Eve, the Raiders visited Acrisure Stadium to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Raiders got off to a good start in the game, as Derek Carr connected with Hunter Renfrow on a touchdown pass to take an early lead.

The Raiders led the game in the fourth quarter but allowed two scoring drives, including the go-ahead scoring pass from quarterback Kenny Pickett to wide receiver George Pickens with less than a minute left. Carr would be picked off on the ensuing drive, and the Raiders dropped the game, 13-10.

The common theme in these two games was that the Raiders could not generate scoring drives with leads after the other team scored. They would quickly go three-and-out and allow the opposing team to score repeatedly.

This might be avoided with new personnel in place for McDaniels to operate his offense at its best. If the Raiders can maintain more scoring drives this season, they might be able to win more games on the road.

The Las Vegas Raiders open training camp for the entire team on July 25, 2023.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
