Raiders Signing Former Steelers ILB Robert Spillane
The Las Vegas Raiders continue to add some much-needed defensive pieces.
The club is signing former Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Robert Spillane to a two-year, $9-million contract with over $4-million guaranteed, according to a report from Doug Kyed of AtoZ Sports Nashville on Tuesday.
Spillane played a career-high 588 defensive snaps for Pittsburgh last season, posting a career-high 79 tackles, four tackles for losses, a sack and four passes defensed in 16 games (five starts).
The 27-year-old linebacker spent the last four seasons with the Steelers, totaling 191 tackles, five tackles for losses, three sacks, eight passes defensed, a fumble recovery, and a pick-six.
Spillane came into the league as an undrafted free agent out of Western Michigan University. He was signed by the Tennessee Titans, where he played only two games as a rookie before being waived in late October 2018.
Pittsburgh would pick him up in February 2019.
After appearing in eight games in his first year as a Steeler, Spillane would earn seven starts in 12 appearances in his second year with the club, recording 45 tackles, two sacks, four tackles for losses, a fumble recovery, and the lone interception of his career, which resulted in his pick-six.
Spillane made four starts in 14 games the following season (2021), finishing the campaign with 56 tackles and two for a loss.
The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo.
March 13-15 is the free agent negotiation period. Starting at 12 p.m. EDT on March 13 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. EDT on March 15, clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2022 Player Contracts at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.
The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period begins at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
